In this guide, we will learn how to remove the “category” prefix in the slug of your WordPress Categories. The default WordPress category slug adds a prefix, typically “/category/”.

For example, if your category name is WordPress, in that case, the URL is displayed as: https://googletopper.com/category/WordPress. However, you can change or remove the Category Base prefix easily in WordPress. Removing the category base prefix from the slug can result in shorter and more readable URLs. And will look like https://googletopper.com/WordPress.

Before we learn how to remove the “category” base prefix in the slug of your WordPress Categories, Let us understand the Pros and Cons of it with respect to SEO benefits.

What are the SEO Benefits of using category prefixes in the slug

Including the category prefix in the slug of your WordPress categories may have some minor SEO benefits.

Firstly, it provides clarity to search engines and users about the nature of the page. The category prefix makes it clear that the page is a category archive, which can help search engines understand the content and context of the page.

Secondly, including the category prefix in the slug can also help to improve the URL structure of your site. Having a clear and organized URL structure can make it easier for search engines to crawl and index your site, which may lead to better rankings.

However, the impact of including the category prefix in the slug on SEO is relatively minor. Other factors, such as the quality of your content, the relevance of your keywords, and the overall structure of your site, are likely to have a much greater impact on your SEO performance.

What are the SEO Benefits of Not using category prefixes in the slug

There are several potential benefits of not using the category prefix in the slug of your WordPress categories:

Shorter and More Readable URLs: Removing the category prefix from the slug can result in shorter and more readable URLs. This can make it easier for users to remember and share your URLs and can also help to improve the user experience.

Streamlined URL Structure: Removing the category prefix can help to simplify your URL structure and make it easier to navigate. This can be particularly useful for sites with a large number of categories.

Improved SEO: While including the category prefix in the slug can have some minor SEO benefits, removing it can also have some advantages. Shorter and more readable URLs can be more attractive to users and may be more likely to be clicked on in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Avoiding Keyword Stuffing: In some cases, including the category prefix in the slug can result in keyword stuffing. Which can negatively impact your SEO performance. By removing the category prefix, you can avoid this issue. And ensure that your URLs are optimized for search engines in a natural and organic way.

Ultimately, the decision to use or not use the category prefix in the slug of your WordPress categories will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages. And it’s important to choose the one that works best for your site and your goals.

Do you want to Delete the WordPress Theme? But worried about how to do it correctly? In this guide, you will learn How to Delete the WordPress Theme. Also, we will discuss everything that you need to know before deleting any WordPress Theme.

At times, you may need to change your WordPress theme and switch to a different one for your website. It’s recommended to delete the previous WordPress theme once you’re sure that you won’t revert to it, after making the switch to a new one.

Please note, you cannot delete the Active WordPress Theme that your website currently using. First, you need to activate a new WordPress Theme.

Why we should delete WordPress themes?

There are a few reasons why you might want to delete a WordPress theme:

To free up space: Unused themes take up disk space on your web hosting account. And if you have a lot of them installed, they can add up to a significant amount of storage. Deleting unused themes can help you free up some space on your server.

To reduce security risks: Even if you’re not actively using a theme, if it’s installed on your website, it can still pose a security risk. If a theme has vulnerabilities, attackers can use them to gain access to your website. By deleting unused themes, you can reduce the potential attack surface of your website.

To improve site performance: Unused themes can also impact site performance. As WordPress still needs to load its files and stylesheets, even if they’re not active. By deleting unused themes, you can reduce the number of files that WordPress needs to load. Which can help improve your website’s loading speed.

To simplify your WordPress installation: If you have a lot of themes installed, it can be confusing to navigate the “Appearance” section of your WordPress dashboard. By deleting unused themes, you can simplify the management of your website and make it easier to find the themes that you’re actively using.

In general, it’s a good practice to keep your WordPress installation lean and only install the themes and plugins that you need. By doing so, you can reduce the potential for security risks, improve site performance, and make it easier to manage your website.

Should we delete all the unused WordPress themes?

It is a good idea to keep at least one additional theme installed on your WordPress website, in addition to your active theme.

If you encounter issues with your active theme, you may need to switch to a different theme temporarily to troubleshoot the problem. Having at least one additional theme installed and ready to use can make this process quicker and easier. This will work as a Backup Theme. The best is to keep the default WordPress theme i.e. Twenty Twenty-Three, as it is relatively less harmful.

Also, for Multisite Network, you should not delete any theme, if the same theme is used by another site.

Before Deleting a WordPress Theme

If you are installing WordPress for the first time, you will find 2-3 default WordPress themes preinstalled under the ‘Appearance > Themes’ section. Install a WordPress theme that you find best for your website. Keep one Default WordPress theme as a backup and straight away delete other themes.

But if you find yourself switching to a new theme, already activated the new theme, and want to delete the old one; Wait!! Before deleting a WordPress theme, it’s a good idea to take a few steps to ensure that your website won’t be negatively impacted:

Make a backup of your website: Before making any major changes to your website, including deleting a theme, it’s always a good idea to make a backup of your website. This ensures that if anything goes wrong during the process, you can easily restore your website to its previous state.

Check for any customizations: If you’ve made any customizations to the theme’s files or added custom code to your website that’s specific to the theme, be sure to make note of them or back up those changes separately. Deleting the theme will remove any customizations made to its files, so you’ll need to reapply those changes if you switch back to the theme or install a new one.

Verify that your active theme is working properly: If you’re deleting an inactive theme, this step is less important. However, if you’re deleting a theme that’s currently active, make sure to test that your website is functioning properly with the new active theme. If you notice any issues, troubleshoot them before proceeding with deleting the old theme.

Save any theme settings: Some WordPress themes have theme-specific settings that you can configure. Before deleting the theme, make sure to save any of these settings or configurations, so you can easily replicate them if you switch back to the theme or install a new one.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your website won’t be negatively impacted by deleting a WordPress theme, and you can easily restore your website to its previous state if anything goes wrong.

How to Delete WordPress Theme

There are a few different ways to delete a WordPress theme, depending on your preferences and the access you have to your website’s files. Let’s start with the most convenient one:

Deleting a WordPress theme through the WordPress admin dashboard

To delete a WordPress theme through WordPress Dashboard, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
Step 2: Go to the “Appearance” section in the left-hand menu.
Step 3: Click on “Themes” to see all the themes installed on your website.
Step 4: Select the theme you want to delete.
Step 5: Click on the “Delete” button located in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Once you click on the “Delete” button, WordPress will ask you to confirm that you want to delete the theme. If you are sure, click on the “OK” button to proceed with the deletion.

Delete via cPanel

To delete a WordPress theme via cPanel, follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account.
Step 2: Navigate to the “File Manager” tool.
Navigate to the root directory of your WordPress website, typically located in the “public_html” folder. Navigate to the “wp-content/themes” folder.
Step 3: Identify the folder of the theme you want to delete.
Select the theme folder and click on the “Delete” button located in the top toolbar. Alternatively, you can right-click on the theme folder and select “Delete” from the context menu.
Confirm that you want to delete the theme folder when prompted.
Once you have completed these steps, the WordPress theme will be deleted from your website. It’s important to note that deleting a theme via cPanel will completely remove the theme from your website and all its associated files. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to take a backup of your website before making any major changes to your site, such as deleting a theme.

Delete via FTP

This method requires a bit of technical skill. To delete a WordPress theme via FTP (File Transfer Protocol), follow these steps:

Step 1: Connect to your website using an FTP client, such as FileZilla.
Step 2: Navigate to the “wp-content/themes” folder on your website.
Step 3: Identify the folder of the theme you want to delete.
Step 4: Right-click on the theme folder and select “Delete” or “Remove” from the context menu. Alternatively, you can also select the theme folder and press the delete key on your keyboard.

Once you have completed these steps, the WordPress theme will be deleted from your website. It’s important to note that deleting a theme via FTP will completely remove the theme from your website and all its associated files. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to take a backup of your website before making any major changes to your site, such as deleting a theme.

Note: Before you delete a WordPress theme, make sure you have a different active theme installed on your website. If you delete the active theme, your website may become inaccessible.

I hope this guide helps you to find the best way to delete the WordPress Theme.

In this article, we will learn How to change the Nameserver. Once you buy a Domain name, you need to connect the domain name to a web Hosting by changing the domain nameservers.

Nameserver helps to point the Domain name to a hosting. Nameserver is part of a Domain Name System (DNS), which keeps the record of the Domain name and associated Web Server IP Address, which tells where to look for a website.

I used to buy Domain names from GoDaddy. GoDaddy is one of the leading Domain Name Registrars and Web Hosting Companies. You will get the cheapest deal on Domain Names every time if you compare it with others.

Before we start, let’s understand the scenario. I have purchased web hosting from Reseller Club and Domain from GoDaddy. Now, how to connect the Domain name to the Hosting?

First, you need to find the NameServers from the Hosting provider.
Second, we change the new Nameservers with existing ones from the Domain registrar.

How to Find Nameservers from Web Hosting Providers

To find the web hosting Nameservers, follow the below steps:

Step 1: Log in to your Web Hosting account.

Step 2: On the Home page, locate the hosting package. As per the below screenshot, click on the Server Icon.

Usually, for all Web Hosting providers, Nameserver information is available on the home page with the package you purchased. Also, you must receive all the necessary details including Nameserver in the post-purchase Welcome Email. If you are still not able to find it, you should connect with the hosting provider’s customer support.

Step 3: Click on OUR NAME SERVERS. You find two or more Nameservers depending on the web hosting provider.

Nameservers usually look like this:

ns1.server-one.com
ns1.server-two.com

Note all the nameservers, you will need them while configuring the domain name to point your Web Hosting.

How to Change Nameservers on GoDaddy

Now you have the Nameservers details of the web host. The next step is to change the Nameservers on GoDaddy. This helps you to connect the domain name to Hosting.

Step 1: Log in to your domain registrar. Here I log in to my GoDaddy account.

Step 2: Select the Domain name that you want to point to another Web Hosting.

Generally, you will find the domains you purchased under My Products, My Order, Domain, etc.

Step 3: Select View Domain Settings or Manage Domain as shown below.

Step 4: Click on Manage DNS.

Step 5: Scroll to Nameservers Section and click on Change.

Step 6: Click on Enter my own nameservers (advanced).

Step 7: Put the Nameserver of Web Hosting.

You will see two boxes named Nameserver 1 (primary) and Nameserver 2 (secondary). Here you have to enter the hosting provider’s default Nameserver. We have noted the Nameservers of our hosting provider by following the “How to Find Nameservers from Web Hosting Provider” section. Copy the nameserver that starts with ns1 to Nameserver 1 box, and the nameserver that starts with ns2 to Nameserver 2 box.

If you have more than two name servers, click on Add Nameserver for additional nameserver. Once done, click on the Save button.

This takes a few hours, or can up to 72 hours to come into effect worldwide. This period is known as DNS propagation.

Well, we have successfully Changed Nameserver and Point to Another Hosting. Hope you find this guide helpful and connect your domain to new Hosting.

Hay, in this article we will discuss, where and how we start blogging and share the best way which worked for me when I started. Among multiple Hosting options available, Blogger and WordPress is always the top and most popular one. As they provide drag-and-drop, easy-to-install plugins, you don’t need to have expertise in web design or development to create a webpage, you can choose responsive themes for free.

As per your need, below possible solutions may help you to choose the best option for you:

  1. If you are starting a blog for fun or sharing information and knowledge, earning money is not your goal, then the best is to start with Blogger.com or WordPress.com for free and it’s easy to manage.
  2. If you want to start blogging to generate revenue and promote your website as a business, then buy a Hosting and Domain from a well-known provider like Godaddy.com, Bigrock.in, Bluehost.com, or Hostgator.in and use a self-hosted platform like wordpress.org or use your Web Design/Development knowledge.
  3. If you want to take blogging as a profession but do not have much understanding of how things work, then choose Blogger.com or WordPress.com to start gaining knowledge of how things work then follow the second point.

In this article, I only discussed Blogger.com and WordPress.com. Later in this series, we will discuss more options.

Blogger.com

Blogger is a product of Google that comes with many features and benefits. If you ask me, I prefer blogger.com to start.

  • Gives you Free Hosting Platform.
  • Gives you Free Sub Domain Name under Blogger, if I choose the free domain name option then our website name will be googletopper.blogspot.com instead of googletopper.com. However, you can add your custom domain name also.
  • Gives you multiple Basic and Responsive Free Themes.
  • Highly Secure as it is a product of Google.
  • Blogger provides you with many Options/Plugins for free which you may need to buy from others.
  • Creating a blog on blogger is very easy, only you need a Gmail account.

WordPress.com

WordPress is also a free hosting platform like Blogger, started in 2003 as an open-source project and is now one of the most popular ones.

• Provides Free Hosting.
• Provides free domain or you can say a subdomain under wordpress.com like ofbit.wordpress.com
• Better and very Responsive Themes but available to choose from.
• Creating a blog on WordPress is very Simple.
• You can add a Custom Domain name.

When we talk about WordPress, one who is new can be confused to understand the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org.
